Interviewee: We walked from Beech Road to school and we used to go home for lunch at the beginning. I remember my friend who lived in Three Gates Lane and after lunch they read a book to us and this book went on and on, it was probably a classic or something, but my friend liked to get back from lunch as quickly as possible to hear what the story was doing and I didn’t care too much so we met at Pound Corner and it was one dash back to school. Eventually we took our lunch and I think last of all they went out and took them to a little restaurant somewhere – there was one in the town somewhere. There wasn’t a kitchen in our part. Although the head Miss Sloane and Miss Harrison were running it, and they lived at the back of St Ives, they really couldn’t cook.
