Interviewer: Where did you do to school?
Interviewee: To Godalming Grammar School. Completely out of my depth really. I was issued with a season ticket with the bus, a season ticket with the train, bought a new satchel, a jacket and a cap and sent off to school, I didn’t even know where it was. I remember Father said: ’Well you can go with the others, they’ll know where it is, you can follow them’. To get into a school like Godalming after Shottermill, it was enormous, [but] that was it. Stuck it out there for however long it was. Didn’t do very well most of the time and then we sat General School Certificate at the end. Again, they got the exam papers mixed up and I got a reasonable mark.
