Interviewee: When I got to Godalming, I was absolutely lost there but I did buckle down in the end, out of it quite well. I left there at 16, no thought of what I was going to do for a living, didn’t seem to have any ambitions. So I left school at 16 and the next thing I knew my father took me the biggest local builders yard, Chapman, Larry and Pudick, and I signed up as a plumber’s apprentice.
