A Gift in your Will

A legacy for future generations

Haslemere Educational Museum was established by Sir Jonathan Hutchinson FRS in 1888. He wanted everyone to have the opportunity of gaining knowledge and enjoyment through seeing and handling objects of beauty and interest, in order to gain a deeper understanding of our world.

Each year, our award-winning Museum attracts around 40,000 visitors, over 200 schools groups visit the Museum to take part in our education programme and we hold more than 100 events and exhibitions. Our Museum is precious to the many thousands of individuals, children, families, schools and researchers who visit us.

We are very proud of our collections of local, national and international interest, which we conserve and protect so they can be seen and appreciated by people now and in the future.

Why you can make a difference

We are a completely independent Museum and, as such, we have to work very hard to secure the funding we need to preserve and develop our unique collections, as well as our historic buildings and grounds. It costs about £700 each day to stay open and ensure that we are here for all our visitors and users. We need to plan for the future to make sure that we inspire the next generation of scholars including natural historians, geologists, textile designers, Egyptologists and many more. The Museum is ideally placed to encourage lifelong enthusiasm.

Our Museum has touched many visitors for over 125 years. If we have made a difference to you, or to a loved one, or if you want to make a difference for others, we would ask that you remember us by leaving a legacy.

The need for bequests and legacies to continue our work is vital

Penny Hollow was a lifelong friend of the Museum and she supported us for over forty years as a trustee and volunteer. After her death, Penny continues to play an important and active part in the life of the Museum and its visitors, thanks to the generous gift she left us in her will.

There may be tax advantages to leaving us a legacy because we are a charity. Your solicitor or financial adviser will be able to advise you.
